Over the Counter Painkillers

Occasional use of painkillers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen can help relieve some of your pain or discomfort. While you don’t want to become reliant on them, they are a very useful tool for occasional lower back pain.

Keep Moving

Unless you are in danger from your lower back pain, you should try to keep yourself moving. The muscles in your lower back are a complex web of parts and you want them to stay strong and flexible. If you are too sedentary, these muscles become weak and your back pain may get even worse. Make sure you get gentle exercise and try to push yourself to keep those muscles strong. The stronger they are, the more they will be able to tolerate. While this might not solve your back pain, it can help to reduce it.

Yoga

Stretching your muscles keeps them supple and able to avoid many kinds of injuries. If you have lower back pain, you should consider incorporating a yoga routine into your day. This can be done in a yoga studio or the privacy of your own home. Start with a basic routine and make it more intense as you get comfortable with the movements. Yoga is great for your full-body health, but it can be especially helpful for easing your muscle pain and helping build strength.

Apply Heat

Applying heat to your muscles can make them more pliant and less painful. One way to do this is with a soak in a bath or hot tub. If this isn’t an option, you can also use a heating pad. Heating pads are inexpensive and can usually be adjusted to the perfect degree of heat for your body. These heat sources are especially good after an intense physical activity.
